Email Marketing – Is it still relevant?

Email Marketing – Is it still relevant?

If you are someone who has been in business for many years, it is likely you use personal email almost daily. However, some associate email marketing with the early 2000s and not 2016. Although email marketing did exist when N Sync was putting up top hits, unlike N Sync (minus Justin Timberlake) it is still relevant today.

Why is email marketing still relevant? First of all, it has been estimated that for every $1 spent on email marketing leads to $38, which provides a 3,800% ROI. Aside from providing a great return, there are numerous benefits your company can enjoy by utilizing email marketing as a staple for your business marketing efforts. I will highlight three key benefits below.

1 – You are 6 times more likely to get a click-through on an email campaign than you are on a tweet. Why is this? Twitter, as with all social platforms, can be noisy. With email marketing you have your reader’s undivided attention. While they are opening your email, they are focused on only your business and the message you have created.

2 – Email subscribers are 3 times more likely to share your content via social media than visitors from other sources. The purpose of this post is not to downgrade social media. It is to explain how email marketing can work in tandem with a great social presence to create a comprehensive marketing plan for your business. Customers are used to opening emails from their friends. If the email is interesting to them, they want to share it with more friends. Social media is a great platform for them to do that. The same idea applies to your business. We don’t recommend forwarding pet photos, however, but that is a different story.

3 – 92% of adults use email, with 61% using it on an average day. Remember earlier how we mentioned that you likely use email? The numbers support that assumption. Over 90% of adults use email. Over 60% are using it daily. Also, the daily percentage does not play a large role in determining if email marketing is right for you. Even if your email is not opened on the day you send it, it will not disappear. The message will remain in the inbox until it is read.

As you can see, email marketing is very relevant in 2016. What does this mean for you? Throw on some N Sync, start brainstorming great content for your next email blast, and party like it’s 1999.
